Police Attacks Corps Members Protesting Non-payment of Election Allowances

Serving corps members in Cross River state who were protesting their unpaid allowances by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have been teargased by armed Police men.

The electoral body has refused to pay their election allowance since March 9 when they took part in the conduct of the general elections.


Just last month, corp members in Gwadanbawa area of Sokoto state did same by taking to the streets to protest non-payment of their INEC allowances. The peaceful protest was however met with violence and threats from men of the Nigerian Police.

Pictures and videos of the incidences have gone viral on social media, leaving Nigerians to pass comments on the callousness exhibited by men of the force.
