What You Must Know About Oyo Governor Elect, Seyi Makinde

Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde was born on December 25, 1967 into the family of late Pa.Olatunbosun Makinde and Mrs Abigail Makinde of Aigbofa Compound, Oj’aba, Ibadan.

He attended St.Paul Primary School and St.Micheal Primary School both in Yemetu, Ibadan; while he had his secondary education at Bishop Philips Academy, Monatan, Ibadan.

In 1985, he gained admission to study Electrical Engineering at the prestigious University of Lagos.


In 1990, he proceeded to have his mandatory National Service (NYSC) at Shell Petroleum Development Company(SPDC) during which he worked at Pupil Engineer.

Between 1992-1997, he worked as a Field Engineer for Rebold International Limited and later became a field manager in the same company.

After gathering experience in various departments, Engr.Oluwaseyi Makinde established Makon Engineering Limited and Technical Services (METS) in the year 1997.

So far, he has gone through various trainings and education within and outside the shores of Nigeria. The Industrial Control Services in Houston, Texas. University of Kent, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Lagos Business School, are not an exception in these.

He later ventured into politics and contested for a seat in the Senate as an ANPP candidate in 2007, but lost the Oyo South Senatorial District seat to Sen.Kamoru Adedibu of PDP.

He contested again in 2015 for Oyo State governorship under the umbrella of the Social Democratic Party SDP which he lost to the incumbent Governor Sen.Abiola Ajimobi.

Making was unrelenting in his zeal to rule Oyo State. He came back again in 2019 on the platform of People’s Democratic Party PDP, to contest the Oyo guber race which he eventually won.

He is happily married to his wife Tamunominini and they are blessed with three children.
